Working Waterfront Festival
Submitted by SEMA on Tue, 2010-10-26 01:38.WWF was a great success. During two days of beautiful weather our volunteers told Ernestina's story to nearly 3,000 people and collected over $700.00 in donations and merchandise sales. A musical presentation on the Main Stage "Many Lives of Ernestina" featuring: Jim Payne & Fergus O'Byrne, Rum Soaked Crooks, The Beans, Chuck Smiler, Polly Zajac, Candida Rose & Peter Arteaga highlighted the various cultures tied to Ernestina. Here is a video posted by Jack Tar Magazine. LINK and more photos thanks to CV News and the Working Waterfront staff.

What's your Vision for Ernestina?
Submitted by SEMA on Tue, 2010-09-14 13:15.Join us for an inspiring day, where, ultimately, our ideas will create a new vision for the future of the Schooner Ernestina! The SEMA will hold a forum at the New Bedford Whaling Museum to discuss potential future uses of the historic ship. We seek diverse people ready to work together to describe how their ideas for the future of the Ernestina can be organized into a plan to sustain the ship’s restoration and operation. Come ready to think, share and get excited! The October 30th event is free and open to the public, however, pre-registration is required and space is limited. CONTACT: Kristen Sarkarati at ks@blueskiesdsn.com or (617) 448-9309, or Barbara (Monteiro) Burgo at bjmonteiro@aol.com or (508) 822-0558 for more information or to register. DETAILS: Saturday, October 30, 2010 ** 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m ** New Bedford Whaling Museum

Ernestina needs your help!
Submitted by SEMA on Fri, 2010-09-10 13:40.The Working Waterfront Festival is this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, September 25 & 26. If you've never attended, this is a wonderful festival with music and food that showcases New Bedford's waterfront and celebrates all the people who work to make any vibrant waterfront successful. Ernestina fits perfectly into this year's "Cultural Mosaic" theme.
Ernestina is right in the middle of the festival grounds. This will be an excellent opportunity to tell Ernestina's story and to attract new friends to support the ship.
Two staff will be provided by DCR but the Coast Guard requires a minimum of 5 people to supervise visitors aboard Ernestina. We will also need more folks to staff the booth at the top of the gangway at Coast Guard Park and to staff the Visitors' Center on State Pier. The festival hours are 11 am to 7 pm on Saturday and 11am to 5 pm on Sunday. We will also need some help on Friday to make sure we're all ready.

And a special THANK YOU to the volunteers who helped tell Ernestina/Effie M Morrissey's story to the visitors Saturday. Julius Britto made digital video recordings of suggestions for Ernestina's future. Lorraine Louanis brought maps of Bob Bartlett's voyages. As you can see we had a great day!
