Call For Volunteers
New Bedford - Volunteers are needed to assist with tours at the Schooner Ernestina. The Schooner Ernestina is the State Ship of Massachusetts and an important part of our local cultural history. Whether you’ve volunteered with us in the past or are a new face, all are welcomed to an informational meeting to be held Saturday, May 22nd at 9:30 AM at our Visitor Center on State Pier.
Volunteers will be trained on how to present the history of ERNESTINA as well as on safety procedures on board the ship.
The Schooner Ernestina requests that interested adults call the office at 508-992-4900 or e-mail leah.jeffries@state.ma.us to apply.
Need help for ship visitors
Shipmates,
Summer and the new hotel are bringing more traffic to Ernestina. Leah Jeffries is also succeeding in scheduling visits by larger groups, but she needs help now.
Please, call her and fix a schedule or give her times when you can be on-call for group visits.
The Gazela Primeiro, a Portuguese barkentine that sailed in the White Fleet fishing cod, will visit New Bedford from Thursday, July 29, 2010, through Aug. 2. This should generate considerable traffic by Ernestina. Please, help tell the story of Ernestina, what she can do, and what she needs to be sailing again. Let's not miss this opportunity.
Thanks.
